A Back-to-Work Season to Watch!

Publié le August 8, 2025

Hello everyone,

Last spring, AQTIS 514 IATSE submitted a brief to the Groupe de travail sur l’avenir de l’audiovisuel au Québec (GTAAQ). This document represents the voice of audiovisual technicians and proposes courses of action to ensure equitable and sustainable development for the industry in Quebec.

This brief highlights, among other things, the importance of our sector to the Quebec economy (over $2.3 billion in direct economic benefits and expertise recognized both here and internationally), while also pointing out that this success relies on workers whose conditions remain precarious. We also demand better recognition for self-employment, effective regulations to stabilize and develop our industry, more competitive tax credits, funding for on-set training, as well as support for diversity, regional development, and new talent. Review it here.

The Minister of Culture and Communications, Mathieu Lacombe, has stated repeatedly that this task force should present concrete proposals and a specific action plan "to ensure the sustainability, quality, and global influence of Quebec's audiovisual sector."

We will be closely following the GTAAQ's recommendations, with the report expected this fall. In the meantime, we are actively continuing our representation work with the government so that Quebec culture can shine and so that the people who make it happen can work in conditions that match their talent.

While we await these crucial developments, I wish you all an excellent end of summer and hope that the Minister's work will lead to an increase in projects to ensure you have a better season!
