Safe Maternity

AQTIS 514 IATSE is there to support you every step of the way during pregnancy.

This page describes your rights, the programs available to you and the resources that will help you stay healthy, safe and secure during this period.

WHERE TO START?

How to apply for benefits

Four tips:

1) CONTACT AQTIS 514 IATSE IMMEDIATELY.

As soon as you know you’re pregnant, call us at 514-844-2113 and select the “health and safety questions” option. An agent will assist you through the process.

We will analyze your options and handle your claim with the CNESST and, if necessary, the Administrative Labour Tribunal (ALT).

2) INFORM YOUR DOCTOR OF YOUR WORKING CONDITIONS.

In your first pregnancy check-up, you should describe your job in detail (environment, duties, schedule, exposure to risks, etc.).

This information is crucial for your doctor to assess whether preventive leave is warranted.

  • IF THE CNESST DENIES YOUR CLAIM, APPEAL WITHOUT DELAY.

The deadline for appealing a decision is very short. If your claim is denied or your payments are terminated, contact us at 514-844-2113 and select the “health and safety questions” option.

We will help you apply for a review of the decision and, if necessary, appeal to the ALT.

3) CONSIDER TEMPORARILY FREEZING YOUR BLUE CROSS CALCULATION.

Since the level of your Blue Cross insurance is calculated on the basis of your earnings, you may wish to freeze the calculation while you are on preventive leave so you are not penalized later when your annual contribution is calculated.

Call us at 514-844-2113 and select the “insurance and RSP” option.

4) CONTACT THE QUEBEC PARENTAL INSURANCE PLAN (QPIP) FOR INFORMATION TO HELP YOU PREPARE YOUR MATERNITY LEAVE.

The QPIP has a fast and efficient phone service to help you plan your maternity leave and understand how your government benefits are calculated.

Contact them at 1-888-610-7727.

Faq
I am incorporated. Am i eligible for the safe maternity experience program (Smep)?

It depends. You must have an employment contract with your company and pay yourself a salary.

If you only pay yourself dividends, without an employment contract, you may not be eligible.

Who pays my benefits and what am i entitled to under the safe maternity experience program (Smep)?
  • Days 1 to 5: The producer pays you 100% of the gross salary projected in your contract.

  • The next 14 days: The producer pays you 90% of the net salary projected in your contract for the days you are scheduled work according to the production calendar, and is reimbursed by the CNESST.

  • Onwards: The CNESST takes over and pays you an income replacement indemnity directly, based on your annual employment earnings, every two weeks.

How will my cnesst claim be handled?

AQTIS 514 IATSE will follow up on your claim with the CNESST and with the producer.

We will also help you contest a decision that deprives you of benefits to which you are entitled.

Will aqtis 514 iatse handle my application to the quebec parental insurance plan (Qpip)?

No. For any questions regarding the QPIP, you must contact the plan directly at 1-888-610-7727.

Am i covered by my group insurance during preventive and maternity leaves?

Yes. If you are insured by:

  • Blue Cross: Inform AQTIS 514 IATSE at 514 844-2113, select the “insurance and RSP” option. When your preventive leave starts and each time it is extended to maintain your coverage.

  • Canada Life: You remain insured but your level of coverage may change, depending on your situation.

What should i do if i am not eligible for the safe maternity experience program (Smep)?

AQTIS 514 IATSE has established a Preventive Leave Fund (PLF), in collaboration with the AQPM.

The PLF provides financial support to members who are not eligible for the SMEP.

See the PLF page for more information.

Who is considered an employer?

In the audiovisual industry, the employer is the production company indicated on your employment contract, and its representative is the production manager.

Note that production accountants or department heads are not considered as employers, unless they have been officially mandated as such.

Am i entitled to employment insurance sickness benefits if my pregnancy prevents me from working?

If your pregnancy compromises your health or that of your baby, you may be entitled to EI sickness benefits. You will need to provide a doctor’s note specifying the reasons for your absence from work and the expected duration of your inability to work.

Given the complexity of each situation, it is best to call us to discuss it at 514-844-2113, select the “health and safety questions” option.

Do i need to continue paying my annual aqtis 514 iatse dues during my preventive and/or maternity leave?

Yes. To maintain access to all services and benefits, your annual dues must be kept up to date.
