AQTIS 514 IATSE CONGRATULATES PAUL ST-PIERRE PLAMONDON’S NEW GOVERNMENT

Montreal, October 6, 2026 – The association representing technicians in the audiovisual sector (the craftspeople who work behind the camera) wishes to congratulate Premier Paul St-Pierre Plamondon. The Parti Québécois, now at the head of the provincial government, is represented by 59 MNAs who received 28% of the vote. The party led an election campaign that saw it ahead in the polls just days before election day. The closely contested election held on October 5 resulted in 40 Liberal MNAs, 19 Conservative MNAs, 9 Québec solidaire MNAs and no CAQ MNAs on the electoral map. The association wishes to congratulate everyone who took part in this campaign, which required tremendous commitment. We also recognize the work carried out over the past several months by outgoing Premier Christine Fréchette.

We extend a hand to Mr. St-Pierre Plamondon’s team to work together on issues affecting the audiovisual sector in particular and culture more broadly. AQTIS 514 IATSE recently submitted a brief containing recommendations to rethink the audiovisual sector’s funding model to the outgoing government’s Minister of Finance. This document was also shared with the Parti Québécois team. Our first recommendation is to permanently allocate 2% of Quebec government spending to culture by establishing an annual budget target based on government expenditures. Our proposals also include diversifying funding sources by drawing on international models and introducing reinvestment mechanisms.
