Preventive Leave Fund (PLF)

The PLF is a program established by AQTIS 514 IATSE, in collaboration with the AQPM, to provide financial support to pregnant technicians who are unable to perform their duties due to their pregnancy.

Eligibility requirements

  1. Have worked at least 28 days for one or more AQPM members during the year preceding the application for financial assistance;
  2. Have average gross annual earnings of at least $15,500, calculated over a two-year reference period;
  3. Be 22 weeks pregnant; AND
  4. Not be eligible for benefits from a public plan or the AQTIS 514 IATSE group insurance plan.

Amount of financial assistance

You are entitled to weekly benefits equal to 75% of your insurable earnings with your insurer.

Benefits in the amount of 2.88% of your average gross annual earnings are paid every two weeks

For example:

With average gross earnings of $60,000, you would receive $1,728 every two weeks ($60,000 x 2.88%)

Benefits are calculated on maximum annual earnings that are aligned with the QPIP ceiling, which is $98,000 in 2025.

Eligibility period for financial assistance

Benefits are paid starting in the 22nd week of pregnancy and end 4 weeks before the due date. The last payment is made on a Saturday to align with the start of QPIP benefits, which begin on the following Sunday.

Important information:

  • The amounts paid are gross. AQTIS 514 IATSE does not deduct taxes. You must therefore calculate the necessary deductions when you file your income tax return.

  • PLF benefits may be paid if you are not eligible for CNESST benefits or if the CNESST terminates your income replacement indemnity under the Safe Maternity Experience Program (SMEP).

    In this case, you will need to contest the CNESST's decision, either directly with the CNESST or before the Administrative Labour Tribunal.

    If your SMEP claim is subsequently accepted, you will have to pay back your PLF benefits, up to the net amount received.
