Sound Department

This page describes the criteria for recognition in the Sound department.

To become a member of any department, you have to:

Be a member in good standing (have paid the membership dues)
Have completed the Initiation à la vie associative session

In addition, to become a recognized member in the Sound department, you must:

Have completed the Prevention of harassment - members, contributing to a harassment-free culture training course

We are in the process of harmonizing the union’s recognition requirements.

In the meantime, there are two ways to be recognized for a position in the Sound department:

According to the previous IATSE 514 requirements - Download (in French only)
According to the previous AQTIS requirements – see below:

Sound Recordist

Have taken the Formation de base en son and Managing a team courses
Have accumulated 120 days of work as a Sound Recordist under Union contract on at least 2 different productions

Sound Mixer / Recordist Assistant

Have taken the Formation de base en son training
Have accumulated 90 days of work as a Sound Mixer / Recordist Assistant under Union contract on at least 2 different productions

Boom Operator

Have taken the Formation de base en son training
Have accumulated 90 days of work as a Boom Operator under Union contract on at least 2 different productions

Dolly Boom Operator

Have taken the Formation de base en son training
Have accumulated 90 days of work as a Dolly Boom Operator under Union contract on at least 2 different productions

Sound Cable Puller

Have taken the Formation de base en son training
Have accumulated 90 days of work as a Sound Cable Puller under Union contract on at least 2 different productions

Sound Mixer

Have taken the Formation de base en son training
Have accumulated 90 days of work as a Sound Mixer under Union contract on at least 2 different productions

Music Playback Technician

Have taken the Formation de base en son training
Have accumulated 90 days of work as a Music Playback Technician under Union contract on at least 2 different productions

Sound Effects Technician

Have taken the Formation de base en son training
Have accumulated 90 days of work as a Sound Effects Technician under Union contract on at least 2 different productions

EPK/BTS Sound Recordist

Camera department

Have taken the Initiation à la vie associative, Protection contre les chutes, Plateforme élévatrice, SIMDUT courses
Have accumulated 90 days of work as an Electronic soundperson (EPK/BTS) under union contract on 2 different productions

Provide the following documents:

1 letter of recommendation from a member of sound department

Departments Info

New Account Form

Are you a technician interested in opening an account with AQTIS 514 IATSE (or complete an existing one)? If so, you must provide your date of birth and your social insurance number (SIN) when filling out the form.

This information allows us to issue your income tax slips and to transfer the accumulated saving from your RRSP and insurance, following the collective agreements.
